Act III is a composition project for Mönchengladbach, described by Meyers as a “new song for the city”.
It specifically centers on the chants resonating within the soccer stadium. The potent “power” inherent in this “gigantic body of sound”, traditionally linked to the fervor of stadium crowds, will be decoupled from soccer matches and transplanted to various locations throughout the city – some aesthetically striking and integral to the city’s identity, others abandoned and overlooked. Ari Benjamin Meyers envisions a convergence of soccer and art audiences.
The debut of the “new song” and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Act III will be presented on October 6 in Museum Abteiberg’s temporary exhibition area. Music at the various performance location sites themselves is accessible via QR codes.
The project KUNSTHALLE FOR MUSIC is curated by Susanne Titz and Gian Marco Hölk. It is made possible with support from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, Kunststiftung NRW, the Foundation for Art, Culture, and Social Affairs of the Sparda-Bank West, the Hans Fries Foundation and the Museumsverein Abteiberg.
