POP PARADISO June 23 – 26, 2022

POP Paradiso, a festival in the sculpture garden at Museum Abteiberg, was created spur-of-the-moment in the pandemic summer of 2021. A second edition from June 23 to 26, 2022 marks 40 years since the museum’s founding. POP Paradiso will be a major celebration for the museum and city as a whole: a varied array of local scenes will converge on the sculpture garden, use it as their stage, their bar, their space for art, music, and parties. Each day brings a new format. True to the avant-garde maxim See, hear, experience that which you do not know, the festival encourages unexpected crossovers and encounters with the new.

Museum Abteiberg opened on June 23, 1982, when a visionary museum building by Viennese architect Hans Hollein (later an icon of global architecture) welcomed visitors to its inaugural exhibition. Built into the slope of Abteiberg hill, the museum’s architecture — with its large rooftop plaza, terraces, green spaces and sculpture garden paths — was designed to be a place for the city. In the spirit of its open, walkable architecture, the museum’s 40th anniversary will be celebrated indoors and out.
