Field Test #5: Saito – Ay-O marks the final chapter in a series of experimental presentations featuring Fluxus works from ANDERSCH COLLECTION/ARCHIVE. Launched in 2021, the series enters its final phase with a concluding presentation opening on November 20, 2025 and running through 2026.
Humorous prints by Tomas Schmit and André Thomkins, chess sets by Takako Saito, and multiples from Daniel Spoerri’s Edition MAT underscore the importance of play within Fluxus. The collection, which includes works and documents by more than 50 artists, was assembled by Dorothee and Erik Andersch, who were active in the Fluxus network in Düsseldorf from the late 1960s.
Acquired by Museum Abteiberg in 2017, ANDERSCH COLLECTION/ARCHIVE will serve as a long-term resource for research on Fluxus and art of the 1960s and 1970s, presented in the form of a Schaumagazin (display storage). In preparation for the creation of this exhibition format within the museum, the final Field Test invites visitors to share their thoughts: How did you enjoy the Field Tests? How do you imagine the planned Schaumagazin taking shape and how would you like to experience it?
The collected suggestions will be incorporated into concepts for the presentation of the complete holdings of ANDERSCH COLLECTION/ARCHIVE in the coming years.
The exhibition presents works by Takako Saito and Ay-O, as well as by Tomas Schmit, Mieko Shiomi, Daniel Spoerri, Ben Vautier, Wolf Vostell, Robert Watts, and Emmett Williams.
